# 9.1 - Create and configure a scenario

Before creating a scenario, we'll begin this example by creating a matrix with the previous year's revenue values (*PY Revenue*), and an inserted column for *Revenue Projection*, which we'll use for our scenario simulations. By default, we have chosen to copy the previous year's revenue values to the *Revenue Projection* column to use as a baseline.

### Create a scenario

1. To create a scenario, begin by selecting **Scenario** under the **Model** ribbon.

2. Edit the scenario name.

3. Choose which series to include in the scenario for simulations.

4. Select **Create**.

5. The scenario has been created. Series that have not been included in the scenario (PY Revenue in this example) are shown with a greyed-out header and values.

6. To simulate values, select a cell and use the slider. Simulations will be covered in more detail in the next guide.

7. Simulated values are displayed at the top of the matrix.

8. Navigate between scenarios at the bottom-right of the canvas.

### Explore the Scenario ribbon

1. Once a scenario is created, a new **Scenario** ribbon will be visible, where further you can further customize your scenarios.

2. Select **Create** to create a new scenario.

3. Select **Compare** to compare scenarios. Find a detailed discussion under Guide 9.3 - Compare scenarios.

4. Select **Settings** to configure the scenario settings.

5. You can edit your scenario name and the series included under Settings. Use the **Lock Scenario** checkbox to lock scenario values and prevent them from being edited.

6. Select the **Input Method** dropdown to select between simulation and distribution input methods. Find further details in Guide 4.2: Bidirectional Simulations.

7. Display or hide variance values using the **Show variance** checkbox.

8. To configure variance slider settings, select **Slider settings**.

9. Choose whether an increase in variance is good (so that positive variances are displayed in green, and negative variances in red) for each series using the toggle. You can also set the maximum and minimum value range for each series here. Select **Update** to apply your settings.

10. Reset all scenario values using the **Reset** button.

11. You can copy the current scenario values to base by selecting **Copy to base**.

12. Select **Bulk Edit** to edit multiple rows and columns simultaneously. Find further details in the next section on bidirectional simulations.

13. Select **Pivot** to pivot data on the canvas.

14. Select **Close Scenario** to close the current scenario.

15. Select the scenario menu button next to the scenario name to hide, edit, duplicate, copy to base, or delete scenarios.

### Scenario security

1. To configure scenario security settings, select **Security**.

2. Select the **Scenario** tab.

3. To provide access to people from your organization, simply start typing to search for a name or email and select the correct ID to add them. Each scenario has separate access controls.
